With an ever increasing range of styles comes an equally increasing range of materials from which verticle
blinds can be constructed. These include materials such as metal, fabric, faux wood and even solar screen. With the
improved designs of the verticle blind tracks enhancing the stabilisation of the blinds which helps to stop the
materials rubbing against each other when you have an open window or patio door. In older versions of blinds this
could cause general wear and tear however with the advent of the enhanced stabilisation techniques you window
blinds will last for a far greater period than previously.
Here are some excellent tips when looking to purchase a verticle blind and what to take into consideration and
importantly, what to look for in a good window blind.
Buying Vertical Blind Tips
1. Observe whether or not the blind you are purchasing have been glued or sewn. Sewn verticle blinds are far
more robust and will last a lot longer than ones which are glued.
2. If you are looking to purchase window blinds in stages and then ensure that the supplier has sufficient
stocks available for the period in which you're looking to purchase. If this is not possible you may end up in a
situation whereby the colour and/or design of your verticle blind will be dissimilar to the original version.
3. There are generally two types of verticle blind mechanisms the first being a wand control system whereby a
small plastic stick is attached to the top of the verticle blind which you simply pull across to close them. The
second and more preferable system it's the cord and chain mechanism. These are far more robust than the wand
systems and more generally last far longer.
Tips on Cleaning Your Window Blinds
Once you have purchased and have had fitted your window blinds after a period of time they will start to collect
dust and debris and will be particularly noticeable should you have light or cream coloured blinds. The best method
of cleaning hanging blinds is to firstly remove them from the attachment at the very top of the opening and closing
mechanism. Should your blinds be connected at the bottom as was the top then gently remove them from their
mountings. At this point you have individual verticle blinds which can simply be brushed to remove the dirt and
debris.
Should your verticle blinds be particularly dirty then pour some warm water into your bath tub and a small
amount of washing detergent. Simply soak the blinds in the bath and detergent solution for around half an hour.
Remove the dirty water from the Bath and simply shower down the verticle blinds with a shower head or rinse
thoroughly. Hang the blinds either outside or inside the towel underneath to catch any dripping water and repeat
with remaining blinds.
